Corrie's David Hatches New Evil Scheme!

Welcome once again to the Mecca Bingo celebrity column, where we give you the lowdown on what’s hot and what’s not in the world of celebrity. So while you’re waiting for the next online bingo game to start, why not see what your favourite and not-so favourite stars are up to? This week, with the news that Coronation Street devil-child David Platt is plotting to kill his soon-to-be brother-in-law Jason, we take a look back at some of the most spectacular (and bizarre) soap deaths!

Despite the whole nation wanting David Platt to finally get a taste of his own medicine, the evil genius is busy plotting his next dastardly scheme – and it could be his most worst yet. Not content with nearly killing his niece Bethany, David wants builder Jason out of the picture.

Our spies tell us that Corrie scriptwriters have written a shocking scene in which David loosens scaffolding bolts while Jason is standing on it, causing the structure to collapse around him. Sarah Platt’s fiancé is left fighting for his life and we don’t yet know whether he’ll make it to the wedding (again!!). We’ll keep you posted and wait patiently for the day when devil-boy can no longer terrorise the long-suffering Platt family!

Moving south to EastEnders now and who could forget the grizzly demise of the most famous soap villain of them all, Dirty Den Watts.

After returning to Albert Square following a 14 year absence in which he was presumed dead (he somehow survived being shot by gangsters), scriptwriters wanted to make sure that Den finally did die, and stayed dead.

Cue a dramatic fight in the Queen Vic with ‘the Three Witches’ – Chrissie, Zoe and Sam; Den dying, then coming back to life, before finally being finished off by wife Chrissie. Phew...that had to be a record for the longest death of any soap character. We’re taking bets at Mecca Bingo as to when Dirty Den appears AGAIN, but it will have to be as a ghost if there is a next time!

From the most drawn out demise in soap history, to the most ridiculous. When Emmerdale bosses wanted to shake the programme up and inject some fresh blood (no pun intended), they decided to kill off half the cast! A bold move, but one that won the soap critical acclaim and lots of new viewers in the process (18million people watched the crash episodes). We started to feel old here at Mecca Bingo when we remembered that this most ridiculous of storylines happened nearly 15 years ago!!!  Fetch the blue rinse and curlers – it seems like just yesterday...

We’ve saved perhaps our favourite soap death (does that sound morbid?) for last. Step forward Corrie once again, and Assistant Manger of Freshco’s Anne Malone. Poor old Anne; if having a psychopathic crush on Curly Watts (!?!?!) wasn’t bad enough, she met her grizzly death at the hands of a freezer whilst trying to frame him! Locked in by security guard Trevor after trying to spray WD-40 on some fish fingers (who writes this?) Anne froze to death overnight. Thankfully for Curly, he managed to clear his name and restore the good reputation of Freshco.
