Blackpool man’s £20,000 bingo shock

A 67 year-old Blackpool man is more than £20,000 richer today, thanks to playing bingo.

The lucky winner, who wants to remain anonymous, was playing at the Mecca Club in Talbot Road on Tuesday, 5 February when he won the National Bingo Game prize of £19,145 together with the Regional prize of £1,005 and the house prize of £336.

The National prize that evening was £38,830 but he had to share with a player in Clydebank, Scotland,  who also completed a full house in 46 numbers, the lowest call in any of the 470 clubs playing nationwide.

The man has been a member of the Mecca club for three years, but was completely taken by surprise when he realised how much he had won.

“The whole club cheered and clapped and we congratulated him, but he was so shocked all he managed to say was ‘thank you’,” said duty manager, Victoria Slater.
