£45,000 bingo winner sharing with two friends

A 27-year-old Leeds woman had a great start to the New Year when she won £45,000 playing bingo. And it came as even more of a shock to her, as it was the first time she had played in over two years.

The lucky winner, who does not want to be named, was at the Mecca Club in New York Street, Leeds on Thursday evening, 3 January when good fortune struck.  

She won the National Bingo Game prize of £45,000 having completed a full house in 44 numbers, the lowest call in any of the 470 clubs playing nationwide.  

The woman, who is single, had been playing bingo for several years then had a break when she didn’t go for many months. She and her two friends decided on the off chance to go and play at the Mecca Club as it was something they had really enjoyed before.

“I couldn’t believe it when they told me how much I had won,” she said. “I went bright red and was in complete shock.  Though I had won small amounts in the past this was my first big win.

She is going to share the money with her friends and will definitely be spending some on a holiday.
