Second big bingo win at Ayr Mecca Club - Student scoops £10,000!

Celebrations are taking place again at the Mecca Bingo Club in Ayr, after their second member in a month scooped a top prize.

The latest winner is 24-year-old Paisley University student Emma Laurie, from Mossblown, who won more than £10,000 while playing at the club in Boswell Park on Tuesday, 17 April.

She was there with her sister, Debbie when she won the National Bingo Afternoon Delight Game prize of £10,000, plus the Regional prize of £348 and the house prize of £52. The National prize that afternoon was £20,000 but Emma shared with a player in Wishaw, who also completed a full house in 44 numbers, the lowest call in any of the 500 clubs playing nationwide.

“I sat there in shock when I realised I had won,” said Emma, “My legs were so wobbly that even if I hadn’t had a bad ankle I wouldn’t have been able to stand up! I stretched my Achilles tendon a month ago when I got on a bouncy castle to persuade my nephew to get off, and then fell off myself.”

Emma has been playing bingo once a week for the past year but this isn’t her only win at the Mecca club. She also won £700 playing table bingo about six months ago.

She is studying biology at the university and also works part time as a care assistant. She will be splitting her winnings three ways with her mum and her sister, and will use her share of the winnings to fund a trip round Europe next year.

The previous winner at the club, a local woman, won more than £20,400 on 26 March. She wanted to remain anonymous.
