Stevenage man amazed at £37,000 bingo win

A 42-year-old man from Pin Green, Stevenage is more than £37,000 richer - thanks to playing bingo.

The lucky winner, who wants to remain anonymous, was playing at the Mecca Club in Danestrete on Thursday, evening of 29 May when good fortune struck.

He won the National Bingo Game prize of £34,485 plus the Regional prize of £2,479 and the house prize of £150 after completing a full house in 41 numbers, the lowest call in any of the 470 clubs playing nationwide.

The man has been a member of the club for 15 years and plays there twice a week with members of his family.

“He was pretty amazed when he realised how much he had won and it didn’t sink in at first,” said operations manager, Richard Astill.“It was great to see one of our regulars win on the National and we’re really pleased for him.  We’re looking forward to many more big wins at the club.”
