Lucky pensioner’s £11,000 bingo win

A pensioner from Bridgwater is more than £11,000 richer - thanks to playing bingo at the Mecca club in Penel Orlieu.

The lucky man, who wants to remain anonymous, said he was ‘absolutely gobsmacked’ by his big win, according to the Mecca’s duty manager that evening, Lee Rothery.

“He really didn’t know what to say,” said Lee.It was on Tuesday, 17 June that he won the National Bingo Game prize of £10,118, plus the Regional prize of £1,091 and the house prize of £44.

The National prize that evening was £30,354 but he had to share with two other players in Edinburgh and Bristol who also completed a full house in 45 numbers, the lowest call in any of the 470 clubs playing nationwide.

The man has been a member of the Mecca since 1992 and plays bingo there three times a week.

“We’re always pleased when a regular customer wins a large amount of money,” added Lee.
