£11,000 bingo win for unemployed Bristol woman
21 June 2008

A 20-year-old unemployed woman from Bristol is looking forward to a shopping spree after winning £11,000 at the Mecca Club in Barton Hill.

And luck is certainly on her side at present, as she won £500 at the club just two weeks ago.

The woman, who wants to remain anonymous, was playing at the Mecca Club on Tuesday, 17 June when she won the National Bingo Game prize of £10,118 plus the Regional prize of £1,091 and the house prize of £186.

The National prize that evening was £30,354 but she had to share with two other players, in Bridgewater and Edinburgh, who also completed a full house in 45 numbers, the lowest call out of the 470 clubs playing nationwide.

“I just wanted to cry when I realised how much I’d won,” she said. “I couldn’t believe it and I just sat there in a daze.”

She has been a member of the Mecca since she turned 18 and plays there once or twice a week, usually with her dad.  She is sticking to an agreement she made by sharing her prize with him, her sister and her father’s friend, who were all playing bingo with her when she won.

She is looking forward to buying a laptop with her share of the money and shopping for clothes.
