Wrexham woman shares £18,000 bingo win with sister
22 June 2008

A 58-year-old woman from Wrexham has won more than £18,000 playing bingo – and is sticking to an agreement she made by sharing the money with her sister with whom she plays.

The win has come at a particularly good time for the winner, as she will be celebrating her 30th wedding anniversary later this month.

The woman, who wants to remain anonymous, was playing at the Mecca Club in Smithfield Road, Wrexham on Wednesday, 18 June when good fortune struck.

She won the National Bingo Game prize of £15,710, plus the Regional prize of £2,069 and the house prize of £270. The National prize was £31,420 that evening, but she had to share with a player in South Shields, who also completed a full house in 45 numbers, the lowest call out of the 450 clubs playing nationwide.

“It was very exciting when I realised how much I had won but it shocked the life out of my sister,” said the winner, “It’s very much appreciated.”

The woman, who has two children, has been a member of the Mecca Club since shortly after it opened and plays there once or twice a week with her sister.

“I’m going to splash out on a special holiday with my husband, cruising round the Greek islands to celebrate our anniversary,” she added.
