Clydebank mum’s £33,000 bingo win

A catering assistant from Clydebank was in a state of shock after winning more than £33,000 playing bingo at the Mecca Club in Drumchapel.

The lucky winner, who does not want to be named, is 25 years old and has a son who celebrates his first birthday this week.

Good fortune struck last Wednesday evening, 27 February at the Mecca in the Great Western Leisure Park when she won the National Bingo Game prize of £31,165 plus the Regional prize of £2,000 and the house prize of £257. She completed a full house in 41 numbers, the lowest call in any of the 470 clubs playing nationwide.

“I was happy with the house prize which was all I thought I had won,” she said. “The woman sitting next to me said you might have won something big.  When they announced twenty minutes later how much I had won, I was very shocked. I was shaking so much I couldn’t carry on playing.”

The winner, who has been playing bingo for two years, visits the Mecca once a week with her mother. On Wednesday however she was with her 31-year-old friend, who is also a work colleague and is sharing the money with her.

“I already have a holiday booked to Majorca and now I can pay it off and not worry about the spending money,” she added. I will invest the rest and put some in my son’s saving account.”
