The woman, a regular at the Mecca Bingo club in Stevenage, won £1 million on the new Mecca Millionaire game, introduced at the beginning of September. In conversation with a friend on the way to play on Friday night, she said she’d love to get a big win so that she could buy a villa in Spain. But she later told Mecca Bingo Stevenage operations manager Richard Astill that she’d like a new bathroom. “She is a regular player and we know her well. She just went into shock when she learned but the place was in uproar with an electric atmosphere you could have cut with a knife. Everyone was in uproar but really pleased for her and so many went up to congratulate her “We’re all becoming very superstitious about Fridays, too. It seems to be the luckiest day of the week at Mecca. The first ever winner of this game was in Scotland on Friday 21st September and now the first English jackpot also went on a Friday. I think all 102 Mecca clubs around the country will be ready and waiting to see if luck strikes three times.” The Mecca Millionaire game was launched on September 1st and is played twice a day at £2 a game. Mecca boffins have worked out that the game would create a new Mecca millionaire on average every 45 days. But the very first winner, a woman from Glasgow, created history when she won on September 21st. And now the anonymous Stevenage woman has become the second winner after just 35 days! |
