Local Lady Scoops £40,000

A local woman from Rochdale has won a staggering £40,000 at her local Mecca Bingo Rochdale whilst playing the new Mecca Millionaire game. Maria Smith called 'bingo' in just 40 numbers but if she had called on the number 1 she'd have taken away a whopping £1m!

Marie won the money whilst playing at the club on Smith Street. Her £40,000 win comes on the fourth day of the Mecca Millionaire game which was launched on September 1st , following the introduction of new gaming laws and is the first in the country to scoop the bonus prize.

Marie comments "I couldn't believe my luck when I realised what I had won. I'm absolutely thrilled! I've been playing at the club since it first opened and so to be the first bonus winner in the Mecca millionaire game is a great honour for me. Obviously it would have been nice to have won the full £1 million but I'm not complaining!"

Mecca Bingo mathematicians have predicted that a new Mecca Millionaire will be created on average once every 45 days, so players across the country are now waiting eagerly to see who scoops the first jackpot prize. The Mecca Millionaire game is played twice a day in a link game covering every Mecca club, and costs £2 to enter. The £1 million prize will be won by the first member to call a full house by completing their game card with the number 1. There is a bonus prize of £40,000 for any member calling a full house by completing in 40 numbers or less.

June Kay, Operations Manager at Mecca Rochdale, was there to see Marie claim the big win: "There has been a real buzz in the club since the Mecca Millionaire game was launched on Saturday and everyone's delighted that the first big win went to one of our members."
