£100,000 bingo winner will start playing every day

A 79-year-old pensioner from Putney is more than £100,000 richer today, thanks to playing bingo at the Mecca Club in Wandsworth.

The lucky winner, who does not want to be named, has been playing bingo for many years but was still shocked by her huge win.

“It took until the next day for me to realise how much I’d won,” she said, “Everybody in the club was jumping up and down when my win was announced, but I just sat there in surprise.”

Good fortune struck at the Mecca Club in Garratt Lane, on Sunday evening, 9 September. She won the National Bingo Game prize of £100,000 plus the house prize of £315 after completing a full house in 41 numbers, the lowest call in any of the 500 clubs playing nationwide.

The Mecca has been very lucky for the woman, who is a widow, as she won £1,000 there six months ago and £3,000 two years before.

She plans to use the money to treat her family of four children, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

“I usually play bingo five times a week, but now I’ve won I’m going to start playing every day,” she added.
